What the app would do
The reason to build it is that Shopify knows things this website does not: your products, your orders and your storefront. A code generated inside the admin can be tied to those, which a code typed into a form cannot.
- Editable codes for printed material. A code on packaging, a shelf label or a window sticker keeps working when the campaign behind it changes, because the printed code points at a short link you can edit rather than at a URL frozen into the pattern. This is what our dynamic codes already do; the app would bring it into the admin.
- One code per product or campaign, repurposed later. A seasonal insert can point at next season's page without a reprint.
- Scan counts. How many people scanned, and when — the same reporting that exists on dynamic codes today, without leaving Shopify.
What it would not do
- No invented numbers on this page. There is no adoption figure, no count of how many people use anything we make, and nothing quoted from anyone else — because there is no app yet, and we are not going to make one up.
- No direct-to-checkout discount codes. A discount URL printed on packaging can be shared with anyone, and link formats are the platform's to change. That is the merchant's margin at risk, so it is not on the list.
- No promise about timing. We do not know when, or whether, this ships. If that is not useful to you, the web tools above are ready now.
What happens to your email
It is stored on our server with the date you joined and a one-way salted hash of the requesting address — never the address itself — so we can tell a flood of signups from ordinary traffic. Nothing is sent to a third-party mailing service, and no marketing list is being built.
If you change your mind, remove yourself below. It takes effect immediately and no notification will ever be sent to that address.
